My best gues is that Apple will make their entire lineup 64 bit. This should be easy for them to do and at the same time will give them a way to distance themselves from all the other PC makers. Apple would have a very easy to understand advertizing statment "All macs are 64 bit" Easy to understand is key.

Wow, the level of arrogance and lack of respect on MacRumors never ceases to amaze me. Every thread, and I mean every, turns into a free for all of personal attacks and insults. Interesting that I never once insulted or disrespected any one individual, yet two responses attempt to personally attack me. Do you know me? Why is this a personal matter for you?
This is about opinions and civil discourse, not about trying to prove how smart you are or to put someone "in their place". That says more about you than me.
Last time I will address this matter unless you wish to discuss the topic without rolling eyes, assumptions on my intelligence, and overly dramatic misinterpretations on my comments (that had NOTHING to do with you - and this relates more so for the first comment quoted).
/end
Lol...
So where exactly did I personally insult you?

Yep, downloadable TV shows, movies for purchase or rent, iPhoto photobooks/prints/calendars/cards etc.
Who gives a rat's? Not me because we can't use any of them.
Yes you can, get yourself some US Itunes gift certificate codes on ebay, and enjoy...

In school we do stuff in metrics because its "the international system" but anyways, it would be too hard/annoying to just start using it. People in the US are more familiar with a foot rather than a metre, and thats just gonna throw everyone off.

While I'm sure if it is true, it'd be a cool phone, but it just seems like one of those rumours that comes up occasionally and then goes away, just like the Tablet Mac.
Normally I would agree, but then Steve hit us with the Intel switch and shook up all my feelings about long-term rumors that come and go.

But, it can be income right? So, why does this *possible* income get such a different relationship? As citizenzen said, I'm willing to be convinced, I'm just not sure I buy that because capital gains can rise or fall based on vagaries such as inflation, that it remains fundamentally different than other forms of income.
What does "willing to be convinced" mean? Will you read Human Action by Mises? It's a thousand pages of thoroughly explained economics. You don't have to read the whole thing, just the sections pertaining to monetary policy and taxes.
If you are waiting for a super intelligent, eloquent, and succinct guy to spend a lot of time convincing people on message boards in order to be convinced of anything you don't already believe, you'll never change your mind about anything. From my end, I don't have the wherewithal or inclination to spend more than a few minutes on a post. So you're really only doing yourself a disservice by passively waiting for someone with all the answers- someone who is also willing to spend as much time as necessary to convince a complete stranger who completely disagrees with him.

A 'perfect' devices with a bad antenna design? Sorry, but I wouldn't touch the iPhone 4 because of its antenna design flaws and won't get an iPhone until Apple corrects that. Hardly perfect. Perfect for YOU maybe..
Have you ever used an iPhone 4 to justify your claims? Or are you just basing your decision on reports from the media vs real use?
I've had an iPhone (2G), iPhone 3GS, and now an iPhone 4. They have all dropped calls. The first gen iPhone dropped them most, the 3G improved and didn't drop as many and the iPhone 4 improved upon that.
Don't read everything you read.

Don't give in Toyota!
Its our devices, and if we want to modify them for our own use, so be it.
That's not going to change. I'm fairly sure Apple wouldn't give a rip if some random Joe made a Scion theme. It's the fact that it's advertising that Apple won't get any part of. Certainly understandable that they would take this action. I really couldn't care less either way, though.

This is good news for me. I'm an advanced/expert user of winblows, and I've reinstalled XP for the last time! Too many things don't go as it should, and I shouldn't even have to reinstall the operating system every 6 blasted months! I'm planning on getting the high end mac laptop in about a year, but its good to know that progress is being made!

Yeah, but you have to think that Apple also sells outside the US. And then their products would be more expensive worldwide. I would not pay a premium to have a product that was built in the US. And I don't think the Europeans or Asians would either, to be honest.
All the companies competing with Apple would have to do the same, otherwise Apple could never come even close to competitors' prices.
There is nothing wrong with companies using resources abroad. It's called specialization. Why produce something for more money and less efficiently when it can be done better and cheaper elsewhere?
I avoid most american made products, half of them are crap. Prime examples are the cars made by Chrysler and GM between 2000-2008. This however are drastically improving though, not sure if we (Americans) could produce all of these things with taxes, restrictions, trade barriers etc. I am sure there are very good reasons why the parts are made there and not here. Plus there is a plethora of unknown pollution aspects of producing tech products. Tree hugger's would freak
You guys got me there, don't really have an answer for that one. I wasn't aware that other countries looked down on products manufactured here, that's a shame.
:(
Well hopefully the companies that manufacture products here step their game up in the near future!

i thought i read somewhere that you needed like 4 gazillion gigs of ram to actually run 64 bit programs... so wouldn't merom be more for bragging rights than actual usability?
i've been waiting since may for merom to come out so i can buy a mbp... but now i'm actually thinking of waiting til santa rosa comes out...
If you keep waiting next gens you'll wait your whole life!! =)
I know it sucks but I agree that this next MBP with Merom is a good buy for the next 3 months...
I guess it just varies on your needs... I mean, I have to buy a laptop from aug/27 till aug/31 for this work I'm doing.. if the rumors are strong, maybe I'll buy some compaq 64bit 600-700 laptop(amd), then sell it as soon as the new MBP comes out... i dunno... just speculating... It's going to be a hard week for me... hate when I need things that don't just depend on me... buying a 1st gen a week before 2nd gen comes out... the worst thing you can do in Computer market.... =PPP

You talk about security, but it's not a security threat to have a jailbroken user
Of course it's a security threat. How do you think the device got jail broken in the first place?

The best option is to cover both ends.
Free
Syncing
Contacts, Calendar, Bookmarks
Small iDisk
Find my iDevice
Web Gallery
Web Page
Paid
iTunes Cloud (Lala music streaming)
More Sync options
Larger iDisk Pro (Dropbox like speed)
Larger Web space and Gallery
Online Backup
iWork.com Pro (Collaboration and editing)
I'm ready to go Google Free. I just need to know Mobileme is worth investing in more.
Exactly, if Mobile me was a free service, it would be severely limited to what is currently on offer, and I doubt Apple would even begin to offer all the features for free, they'd still want people to pay a premium.

I've had the service for over 4 years and I have never paid full price.
I would not mind if they lowered the price to say $49/annually or even tiered pricing, but all out free scares me a little.

Close but no banana. Any type of tablet needs to have at least 1"-1.5" of border so when you pick it up one handed you don't touch the screen. Also I think Apple would NEED to have grips on a couple sides of the thing. I don't know ab out you guys but picking up my MBP one handed is difficult and sometimes scary.
Also screen size dictates battery life. Granted this picture doesn't depict the screen size but it can't be larger then 12-13" max
12-13" + Intel Core 2 Solo ULV + the entire backside being a battery + a swivel keyboard on the thing + a modified OS X GUI == Apple for the win.
Just look at the specs:
1GHz Transmeta Crusoe
Transmeta sucks....like black hole sucking.
I've always been of the impression, since the time of the pre-release discussions of tablet PCs, that they were a solution looking for a problem.
I would never, ever want to spend my money on an electronic equivalent to a notepad. And I happen to use notepads, BTW. However, if I was taking notes with it (which is NOT at all what I do with the notepads I own), there's no way in the world I'd be writing on it; that would be far too slow.
Why would I want to waste my time learning shorthand (which makes the assumption that TPCs could handle various forms of shorthand) so I could do through writing what I can already do at 70+ WPM via typing. And with typing, it solves the whole problem of handwriting recognition, because there ISN'T ANY.
The TPC market is so highly specialized and so incredibly vertical that I believe it would be nothing more than a distraction for Apple away from their core business and development strengths.
handwriting on a tablet PC is what I define as bandwidth limiting. In order from fastest to slowest.
Speech
Typing
Handwriting
All three can be done a tablet, granted speech to text is still a hit and miss tech, as long as said tablet is a convertible and NOT a slate design. Slate designs, ones that don't have a keyboard are for vertical markets and dedicated devices like multimedia players and the like.

You also point out another Myth created by apple, the "Quality of product" myth. They have to control the product to provide quality. So far I can name 10's to 100's of times Apple has failed to provide such good tight control on the quality of their products, from:
Updates to IOS that crash or disable basic functioning of the device to
Apps in apple's own App store that either violate peoples information and bank accounts to apps that simply do not work and people paid money for them. The Iphone antenna, yes these are just the examples I can quickly post.
I can prove apple is delinquent in its stewardship of "Quality" Apple has a great ability to be teflon company with Steve Jobs getting on stage and exclaiming the problem is never Apple its always something else. Steve should of ran for president............
Is this a serious argument that Apple does not provide better quality products than everyone else out there or a rant about three (extremely vague and un-substantiated except for antenna) issues demonstrating that at SOME time in the past SOME of Apple's products have been less than perfect?

this event is going to be simulcast in LONDON. Does this mean that movies will be able to be purchased by folks in the UK??? as far as I know you still cant purchased TV shows sold through iTunes in the UK:confused:
I don't know. I think the logistics of a Movie store would be easier than TV shows for Apple.
Movies get released around the same time in the US and UK now... maybe a few months delay. Once Apple has the deal with one studio, I'm guessing they're good.
With TV, shows air MONTHS later over here and they're on a ton of different channels. Sewing up deals with all the different networks for one country must be a headache let alone two or three countries.
I seriously think it's about time that Apple offered more than just bl**dy Pixar outside the US though.
Looking forward to see what they have planned tomorrow anyway. Unfortunately I'll be buying a couple of visiting Australian friends dinner when the keynote goes out. :-( Wonder if they'd settle for a packed lunch at the Apple Store? lol
